At Energy Overflow, we envision a world where creativity, education, and opportunity intersect to drive personal and community growth. By providing platforms to cultivate skills, access resources, and perfect talents, we aim to break cycles of poverty, foster innovation, and build pathways to generational wealth for individuals of all ages and backgrounds.

Our founder, Gary Thomas, is a multi-talented entertainer turned creator who has used his journey to prove how the environment doesn’t define destiny. Born and raised in Detroit and a graduate of Pershing High School, Gary knows firsthand what it means to grow up without access to resources. That experience is what drives his passion today, pouring into the youth who need it most.

He’s made it his mission to give young people in Detroit what he never had: real access to mentorship, creative outlets, and opportunity. With a background in the performing arts and a career that took him around the world, Gary came back home to create something that would outlast applause, impact.

In 2023, he founded Energy Overflow Organization, a nonprofit based in Detroit with a clear purpose: to serve youth and young adults ages 10 to 24 who are often overlooked, underestimated, or underserved. Most of the youth come from Black and Hispanic communities and live in neighborhoods where opportunity is limited but potential is everywhere.

To date, Energy Overflow has:

• Participated in the nationally recognized Summer Discovery Michigan program, powered by the United Way of SE Michigan

• Donated over 120,000 pounds of food to local families

• Hosted free events like Baseball Night for kids aged 8 to 18

• Launched seasonal drives and youth led initiatives

Gary’s work is rooted in community, culture, and commitment. He is a product of Detroit, and now he’s making sure the next generation knows they are more than a product of their environment, they’re the future of it.
